Project summary
Young piglets need to be handled in order to carry out necessary piggery management and health processes, however, previous research has shown negative handling can have a long term impact on pig performance.
This project explored how an edible gel could be used to deliver common treatments to suckling pigs, which would reduce handling and stress
Value for producers:
- Improved piglet welfare and reduced stress
- Less manual handling and labour for farm staff
- More effective vaccine delivery
