Pigs on show in Adelaide

Pigs were fully represented at the Royal Adelaide Show, with all eight breeds of pig available in Australia on display.
The APL team hostedt an information stand, providing a great opportunity to give show goers information about all things pig production and pork, as well as supporting the producers who had pigs on display at the show.
The interest of high schools in the School Pig Handling Competition continues to grow with 90 students representing 11 South Australian high schools competing in 2024. SA producers donated 11 pairs of commercial gilts to the high schools in term 3, providing an opportunity for school agricultural programs to include pigs in their teaching program.
This interest in pigs was further encouraged in the junior pig judging competition and judging workshop run by NSW pig breeder and show judge, James Dockrill. James provided the aspiring young show judges with tips on what to consider when looking for commercial and breeding attributes.
