Review and update of ProHand Pig Abattoir

Project summary

This research project will revise and update the ProHand Pig Abattoir training program.

ProHand Abattoir is a successful cognitive-behavioral training program used by most of the pig processing industry in Australia. The training program aims to improve the attitudes and behaviour of abattoir stockpeople who handle pigs before slaughter to improve handling, reduce pigs’ fear of humans, and improve welfare and meat quality outcomes.

ProHand Abattoir was developed and commercialized in 2016. With a commitment to continuous improvement in pig welfare, this research project will revise and update the ProHand Pig Abattoir.
