ACCC investigating issues in agricultural machinery markets

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is examining the agricultural machinery market to make sure it is operating fairly.

The ACCC’s main concerns are around maintenance and repairs, and data. Specifically:

  • access to independent agricultural machinery repairs is limited
  • farmers may lack recourse in the event of a problem with their machinery
  • agreements between manufacturers and dealers may limit access to repairs
  • data ownership and management may raise privacy and competition concerns.

The ACCC is seeking further information and feedback from stakeholders, via a survey and submissions, to better understand the extent of the concerns identified. APL encourages producers with experience, knowledge, or opinions on these matters to get in touch with the ACCC.
