General Manager Policy
Ms Deb Kerr has joined Australian Pork Limited as the General Manager Policy in January 2014. Previously, Deb held the position of Manager, Natural Resource Manager for the National Farmers’ Federation for nearly six years, and managing national policy portfolios for water, natural resources and biodiversity, property rights, native title, mining and onshore petroleum, and climate change and carbon.
In her previous role, Deb was frequently engaged to collaborate with the Commonwealth Government, COAG processes and other industry organisations to represent the agricultural sector in policy formulation.
Prior to the NFF, Deb held policy positions covering water, farm business and economics, trade and membership for farmer representative bodies. She designed and managed Australia’s first on-farm water efficiency project, under The Living Murray Initiative. The architecture for this project was adopted by the Commonwealth Government in its own on-farm water efficiency project, as part of the Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure Program. Deb has held various representative positions including as a delegate to the Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia’s Central Executive.
Deb holds a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Sydney, a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is a graduate of the AICD and Murray-Darling Basin Leadership Programs. Deb spent over 17 years on a family farm at Deniliquin, NSW, which produced dryland and irrigated crops, beef cattle, merino sheep and prime lambs.
