National Feral Pig Management Coordinator
The National Feral Pig Management Coordinator will lead the national coordination of feral pig management, surveillance and control activities, undertake stakeholder engagement, drive effective cross-sectoral and government investment and raise community awareness of feral pig issues.
This role has arisen as part of a Commonwealth grant to Australian Pork Limited (APL), under which APL will oversee the national coordination of feral pig management activities and control plans.
The Coordinator will deliver a national approach to feral pig management, including reducing the biosecurity risks posed by feral pigs.
The Coordinator will work in consultation with the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, industry bodies, natural resource management (NRM) and environmental groups and the wider community.
The Coordinator’s principal responsibilities will include support, guidance and delivery of feral pig management approaches on a national, regional and local scale, communication and engagement activities, and leading the development and implementation of a National Feral Pig Action/Management Plan.
The Coordinator will also help to ensure that reliable feral pig control methods are understood and used, and strengthen the on-ground work carried out by state and territory governments and landholders.
